Former Florida Gators receiver Jabar Gaffney has become the latest victim to tweeting while emotional.

Gaffney, now with the Washington Redskins, got upset with someone on twitter after the the supposed Dallas Cowboys fan tweeted “laughed out loud at the Redskins “3-9” record. The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Washington Redskins 27-24 in overtime Sunday. Jabar Gaffney responded to the tweeter with these terse words, according to CBS and the Washington Times.

“we 3-7 u dumb [expletive]” and then “3-7 ain’t a record to be proud of I’m just proud I ain’t you get a life or kill urself.” He added, “I don’t want the man to really kill himself it was just a way of saying [expletive] off or leave me alone to all you lames keep up or don’t follow.”

There’s no such thing as fairness when it concerns athletes and coaches snapping back on rowdy fans. Sure, fans can be rude and downright nasty sometimes, but athletes and coaches (see Rex Ryan) will always be held to a higher standard for their behavior because it’s a part of their job.

In a perfect world, the fan wouldn’t have sent that ridiculous tweet, but there is no such thing as decorum in social media or technology as a whole these days. So with that in mind, athletes might be wise to self impose a no check-in policy with their twitter and Facebook accounts after emotional loses (just saying).

It’ll be interesting to see what the NFL’s response will be here. Rex Ryan was fined $75,000 for cursing at a fan during halftime against the New England Patriots in Week 10 and two years ago Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams was fined $250,000 for flipping his middle finger from his luxury box. The difference here with Gaffney compared to the latter two was that Ryan and Adams’ indiscretions were moreso knee-jerk reactions that happened during their games. Given the fact that Gaffney’s reaction was more premeditated, he could see a much higher fine than Ryan. But should he?
